We eat homemade pizza in our house almost every week. This recipe came to me from a friend who knew we make our own pizza. This is a family favorite in their household. We hope you enjoy! (Look at the end for a short cut to homemade pizza!)
1 1/2 -cups all-purpose flour
1-teaspoon baking powder
1/2-cup cold milk
Chill butter and milk -this keeps the crust flaky. It also prevents the fat pieces from melting into the flour and becoming tough.
Next, mix the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder. Cut the chilled butter into the dry mixture using pastry cutter. (A fork would work, also.)
The mixture will have fat lumps, but should be no larger than the size of a raisin. Pour chilled milk in just until milk is absorbed. Mix gently with a fork. Gently form dough into a ball. Mix dough as little as possible. Note that humidity will affect how much liquid the flour will absorb. Cover with plastic wrap. Let dough rest at least 30 minutes. (Overnight is better.) Grease pizza pan and form the dough to a pizza crust. Cover with sauce. Sprinkle Oregano, Garlic Salt, Basil and a dash of sugar over the entire pizza and crust. Add your favorite toppings. Bake at 425 degrees for 10- 12 minutes. (Please note that oven temps vary.)
For a Cheese Stuffed Crust: Push pizza dough to the sides to form a large crust. Lay Mozzarella Cheese sticks against the sides of the dough and the pan. Fold the dough over the cheese and smash the dough together so the cheese won’t melt out. The crust will be a thick crust. Cover the pizza with your favorite toppings. Bake and enjoy!
Honey Crust Pizza: Push the pizza dough out to the sides, allowing a thicker crust. Take your Honey Bear and squeeze a line of honey all the way around the perimeter of your pizza crust. Gently smooth the honey around on the crust of the pizza. Cover the rest of your pizza with your favorite toppings. Bake and enjoy!
Short Cut to Home Made Pizza:
Find Frozen Bread loaves in the frozen section at your local grocery store. One loaf of bread will make a pizza. Un-thaw the loaf on your greased pizza pan. Rub olive oil on the dough. Allow it to rise for another hour after it un-thaws. Take the dough with your hands and form the pizza crust on your pizza pan. Cover it with your desired sauce (Alfredo sauce makes a nice pizza, too!) Bake it for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees. (Oven temps will vary. Watch it the first time to see how long it needs to bake in your oven.)
Take out the pizza and cover the pizza with lots of cheese. Sprinkle basil, oregano and garlic powder over the cheese. Bake for another 10 minutes. Take out of the oven and let rest for a few minutes, as the pizza will be very hot and will be too hot for kids to eat right away. Enjoy!
