2009. A New Year. That means it’s time to develop a list of goals. Or, at least that’s what everyone says we should do.
Even though I am a FIRM believer in making goals and writing them down, I actually do not write down a list of New Year’s resolutions myself. I stopped doing that many years ago. I found that I would create a great list of resolutions for the New Year, only to develop a new list around March. (I can do that-I am a female. That’s what we do: we change our minds.) As the year went by, and then ended, I would accomplish some great things, none of which were on either the list formed in January, or in March. So… what’s the point, right?
However, I do not mean to be the Scrooge of New Year’s Resolutions. I do actually have a few of my own. I just haven’t written them down. (Until now.) I intend on losing some unneeded weight this year- permanently. (For some reason, I lose it and then I find it again.) And, I plan on putting all of my loose photos in scrapbooks. (I am not what some would consider a scrap-booker, I just stick photos in the books in an organized fashion and that’s good enough for me. I don’t like them laying around everywhere.)
Those are two of my personal goals this year. I have other goals that I would like to accomplish, but I have learned one very important thing. I always seek the will of the Father and place His Will first in my life before my OWN will for my life.
The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I have learned that before I write down any goals for myself to seek God first. I ask Him what His goals are for me, for I know that His plans for me are better than my plans for me. Jeremiah tells me that God plans to prosper us, whether it’s financially, emotionally, physically, or even in our relationships, He plans to take care of us. He gives us hope, and with God, our future looks bright.
Jeremiah also tells us in chapter 33 verse 3: Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. This is what the Lord is saying to His people. He wants us to call on Him, and He WILL answer us. He wants us to seek Him and when we do, He will show us Great and Mighty things. I don’t know about you, but any plan that prospers me, gives me hope and a future, AND I get to do Great and Mighty things, sounds like a pretty good plan to me.
After much thought, I have decided I would write down my New Year’s Resolutions this year. This is what they are:
New Year’s Resolutions for 2009
1.Seek God for His will for my life
2.Do Great and Mighty Things with God
3.I Have Hope
4.I Have a Bright Future
5.I Have Prosperity
My desire for you is that you will also seek God for your life and for your New Year’s Resolutions. If you do, I can imagine that your list will look a lot like mine. Have a Blessed 2009!
